Positive Thought Training!

Parenting Insight…

Do you know how pleasant and wonderful it is to have positive thoughts? How about how unpleasant and uncomfortable it is to have negative thoughts? Do you know that negative  thoughts are more tenacious than positive ones and can take over one’s entire thinking process? If you answered yes to any or all of the above, then you also know it is very important to teach your child how to arm him or herself against internal negativism when it arrives.

Tip 25

Teach your child about positive self-talk.

Make up personal “mantras” for your child to learn to say over and over whenever unpleasant negative thoughts take hold. Here are some fun ones.

* I’m smart. I’m attractive. I’m a very good friend.

* I’m strong, I’m clever. I tell funny jokes.

* I’m happy. I’m polite. I do well in school.

Have fun with these or make up your own that might be even more on-target for your child.
