Baby Play!

Activity 40: Hand and Finger Play!

Age Range: Newborn and up…

Area being Developed: Fine Motor

Your baby’s tight little grasp is as cute as it can be! Start with your thumb and put it right in that grasping spot. Then switch to the other clean objects. Next play some kind of game that is right for you and your baby. First put an object in your baby’s hand. Then take it out. Take turns with your baby holding the object of choice. Keep playing as long as you and your baby continue to have fun.

Enrichment…

A newborn has a reflex grasp. First it is helpful to loosen it up. Then it is beneficial to help build its strength.  A child’s small block is a suggested item for this kind of play.  However, any convenient safe object can be used.
