October: Music to Your Ears!

October sounds good…

As you probably already noticed, fall is well under way. As beautiful as it is to look at, it is even more beautiful to hear. Children love jumping in piles of dried leaves and hearing that crunching sound. As the wind blows, branches sway; and they make all kinds of interesting sounds.

MUSICAL ACTIVITIES

Now I invite you to come inside, warm up, and enjoy some musical activities with your child. Here are a few of my favorites. These and others are fully explained in the book Make Your Own Preschool Games.

Make Your Own Preschool Games.

1. Draw to Music – Encourage your child to capture through art what particular pieces of music bring to mind.

2. Sing Along – Write down the words to a song your child knows and point to the words as you both sing together.

3. Make up a Song – Make up words to a common tune to help your child learn important information like his or her telephone number, address, or family code. When your child is a little older, you can apply this idea to “math facts” too.. He or she will really like that!
