Activity 53 – Warm Up, Cool Down*
Age Range – Preschool and Up
Area Being Developed – Motor Skills
Either outside or inside find a large area where your child can move around in an active way. Then select an agreed-upon activity like one of these–running, jumping, hopping, skipping, and galloping.
Here is an example using running. Give directions like this… . slow, fast, slow. Then have your child give you the directions. Repeat this game with any or all of the other movements.
Running, jumping, skipping, and hopping are all activities your child will enjoy. In addition, they are particularly good for the heart and circulatory system.

Movement is it for children. To them it is a state of great comfort and joy. With movement needs met, aggression goes way down. As you know, we don’t see many unhappy or distressed children out on a playground.
