Activity 64 – A Categories Game
Age Range – Preschool and Up
Areas Being Developed – Social Skills and Thinking… all at one time!
Yesterday on “Monday Morning Coffee” you learned about different recommended magazines for young children. The focus was on receiving magazines by mail and enjoying parent-child time together.

Today we expand the idea to cutting out specific pictures from those magazines. Look for these three categories: Food, Animals, and Flowers. Once you have all the cut-outs, mix them up. Then one-by-one together play a sorting game with your pictures.
You may need several different magazines to cut out enough items for these three categories. Catalogs from stores are also good for this activity.

Enrichment…
Language, language, language! It is built right into this play in so many fun and interesting ways. First you two can talk about whether or not a picture fits a category. Next you can discuss colors and other features of choice. Last but not least you will see all kinds of letters, words, and sentences that will enrich what you are doing.
A Bouquet of Positive Feelings!
Look for fruits and flowers in all the colors of the rainbow. If you keep looking, you will find them all.
