Let’s brainstorm all month long about how to change this current “shoot ‘em up” mentality.
The big overriding concept is “Needs Met.” Remember Maslow’s hierarchy of needs? Basically he taught us that we all operate on a “first things first” basis. If you are tired, hungry, or out of sorts, you are not able to give your full attention to what needs to be done, do it well or do it right. As you well know, if your students cannot get good attention, the next best thing they take is bad attention.
What seems to be happening now is young people doing whatever it takes to get the worst kind of attention of all.
During this month we will be exploring the range of basic needs children have and the many different ways to meet them. There are always ways to make the human condition better.
