The following information is being shared, by request, on behalf of Jumpstart's Read for the Record. Be sure to pledge by October 6!
Early childhood education is an issue that receives too little attention in our country, but the reality is that 1 in 3 children in the U.S. begins kindergarten behind, and most will never catch up. Now there’s something you can do to help by pledging to read as part of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record on October 6th. On this one day, millions of people across the globe will read the same book, Llama Llama Red Pajama as part of this special annual event organized by Jumpstart, a national education organization. The simple act of reading with a child on this one day translates into year-long educational support for preschool children from low-income communities, many of whom grow up in homes without a single book.
We must reach over 2.1 million readers in order to break the record.
For those who do not already own the book, it is being offered to read free online at wegivebooks.org in both English and Spanish.
