Is the book title throwing you a bit? It threw me at first, too. StinkyKids?
We sat the book down and I waited for a few weeks, before reading it again. I then picked up the story one night and read it with my daughter, snuggled in bed. She didn't mention anything about stinky this time. At first I worried a bit about the storyline, though: these kids grab hold of scissors and cut their friend's hair? Holy toledo! I kept reading, hoping...hoping...there was a moral to the story! There was. Whew. In fact, it's a great moral and a wonderful teaching book. When I was a kid I grabbed hold of scissors and cut my own hair, too. I had long locks that my mother had spent years growing out. Soon enough I had hacked my hair to bits leaving my mother in tears. We managed to turn the hack job into a decent cut but the entire process left me NEVER wanting to self-scissor again. In the same way, the StinkyKids realized their wrongdoing and experienced the consequences of scissor use followed by the big clean-up job. The book encourages children to talk with their parents for guidance and in the end, they are left with a question to ponder and discuss. I love that! Why StinkyKids? The name “StinkyKids” comes from the phrase “little stinkers”, which the author Britt used to describe the innocent behavior of her two kids when they were little. About: The StinkyKids characters are little stinkers who learn to make right choices through their childhood mistakes and who live by the motto “Always be a leader of good."
