Parenting Insight…

Most parenting advice focuses on concrete behavior.  Yet it is positive patterns of thinking on the inside that hold the power.

Dr._SallyTip 6

Teach your child with love tools for self-encouragement.

Here are two popular examples. The words are catchy and easy to say. They are fun to repeat and have a comforting ring to them at the same time.
  1. What happens when you fall down? You pick yourself up and keep going.
  2. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

When your child makes a mistake, misjudges, or has some kind of bad experience, choose one of the above to come to the rescue. Since mastering almost anything takes time and practice, it is wonderful to be able to give one or both of these messages to convey to your child understanding and support.
